The hotel is located on the cliff top and offers magnificent panoramic sea views and the very warmest of welcomes. Built in 1854, and still containing many original features, this historical hotel boasts the most spectacular views of the south coast of the Island. The position is perfect for Shanklin Old and New towns and overlooks Shanklin esplanade and the beach. Being situated on the edge of the famous cliff path it also is ideally situated for a leisurely stroll or a full cliff walk for the more enthusiastic.  It is a family run hotel enthusiastically managed by Mark, Pippa, Mike and Toni.  Mike (the chef) prides himself on his home cooked fresh food with an interesting and varied menu, complemented by a good wine list and well stocked bar which is large and spacious and leads on to the conservatory, where you can enjoy peace and tranquillity during the day.  The dining room, which takes full advantage of the sea views, has an informal atmosphere, so you can relax in the way that you choose.  Last year we had exclusive use of this fantastic hotel and we have no hesitation in recommending it as the perfect venue for a bridge holiday.

Ferries are available on an hourly basis from either Southampton or Portsmouth. Please state the approximate times (and port) you wish to catch the ferry in both directions (there is a section on the booking form for this).  The full cost of both trips is covered in the price.

The Isle of Wight

There is a wealth of interesting places to see and visit and you’re never short of ideas on the Isle of Wight.  There is Carisbrooke Castle, the Roman Villas, Grays Monument in St. Lawrence, the Island Planetarium, the Owl & Falconry Centre and the big cat sanctuary.  Also, there are many sporting and recreational clubs.  In addition walking is a major pursuit with so many exhilarating areas and some magnificent scenery to explore.  The Isle of Wight has a wealth of footpaths and bridleways and is reputed to have more footpaths per square mile than any other English county - from a 60 mile coastal path, to easy circular routes, and short town trails - there are over 500 miles of well maintained paths on an island that measures 23 by 15 miles.  The Coastal Path can be walked in four days at a leisurely pace. The coastline is varied from white chalk cliffs to quiet estuaries. Almost half of the coastline is designated "Heritage Coast", a definition applied only to coastlines of the highest quality and unspoilt nature.  Inland the chalk downlands are the home to many unique wild flowers and fauna, and the Island has some of the most picturesque villages in the country.  The Council's Parks and Countryside Section produce a free leaflet every April and September. TheWight Summer Festival has 100+ walks and many special events for the period between April to September each year.
