The Graythwaite Manor is well noted for its
superb cuisine and award-winning gardens and there are many other good
reasons why it is a perfect venue for a relaxing weekend - in addition
to the bridge! It is a family-run hotel and has elegant, spacious
lounges full of antiques which add extra class and comfort. It is
also warm with its log fires that provide that extra bit of warmth
during more chillier nights. It provides an exclusive, comfortable and
tranquil setting enhanced by its peaceful situation in six acres of
private gardens and woodland on the hillside overlooking Morecambe Bay.
The gardens were first laid out in 1899.
They have gradually been added to and there is now a quarry
garden and summer house where there was grassland and a stone arch,
pergola, rockery and water garden have been recent additions.
Rhododendrons and azaleas flourish as do subtropical plants and
trees which grow in the ornamental garden. Only a short drive
away is Lake Windermere, Coniston, Cartmel, Holker Hall, Levens Hall
and Sizergh Castle.
Travel directions :
Leave
the M6 at junction 36. Follow the A590 to Grange. Pass through
the village and, after passing the new swimming pool turn right just
before the fire station. The hotel is 30m up Fernhill Road.
